Southside is a non-denominational fellowship of Christians who share common values and views on matters of faith. By non-denominational, we mean firstly that we believe Jesus never intended His body to be divided and split along lines of human reasoning. We strive to revive unity among those professing the name of Jesus. Secondly, it means that we are not organized according to denominational norms. We do not belong to a central organization or board that establishes policy for our church. Our congregation is completely autonomous and independent of any other congregation in terms of practice and doctrine. We have a group of elders who oversee the work done by this congregation. They are chosen from among the members of this congregation according to guidelines found in Scripture. We diligently search God’s Word to provide us with the direction we take in our service to Him and follow the spiritual guidance of our elders. These men are also sometimes called bishops and pastors.
We believe the word “church” does not describe a building, but people. It describes very special people, who have surrendered their lives to Jesus and have been baptized into His name, having their sins washed away. God sent His Son so that we might be saved through Him and so that we can grow closer in relationship to Him. For that reason, our church is very people-centered. We hope you will find us to be a group that cares about people.
We are a church made up of widely diverse people: people of different races, ages, backgrounds and occupations. We have a large number of military personnel among our members from neighboring Fort Hood. Our desire is for everyone to feel welcome when they visit our family. We also do many things together as a family. We often eat together, play together, work together and worship together. We take to heart God’s designation of Christians as His children. We believe that we are brothers and sisters in Christ who have been saved by His blood.
